Our ‘Welcome Pack’ provides parents with lots of helpful information about St Mary’s preschool .
Here are the answers to some of the questions we get asked regularly about our preschool.
Does my child need to be toilet trained to attend St Mary’s?
No, we support home toilet training and have nappy changing facilities.
What age can my child start?
We have places available for children from the age of 2 and a half.
What is the staff to children ratio?
As a minimum, the rations are 1:4 for under 3s and 1:8 for over 3s.
Can I use other childcare providers as well as St Mary’s?
Yes, many children have sessions at more than one setting.
How many sessions does my child need to attend?
A minimum of two to keep continuity and encourage friendships.
How often do you go outside?
Every day unless there is extreme weather. We have a large, secure playground which includes a fantastic wooden pirate ship for climbing and fantasy play.
Will my child be given food and drinks?
The children bring a packed lunch every day. We provide a wide variety of healthy snacks including fruit, vegetables, toast, cereals and food appropriate to various festivals throughout the year.
What happens if my child doesn’t want me to leave?
We encourage visits in the half term prior to your child starting to help familiarise your child with staff and surroundings. We work with parents to discuss settling in according to the needs of each individual child.
What happens if I can’t pick my child up?
You can phone us and instruct us that a friend or relative can collect your child. We will ask you for a password that the person collecting your child will be asked to quote.
